UPCOMING EVENTS at WINDSOR LIBRARY

Saturday, March 9, 1PM: Wolf Peaches, Poisoned Peas, and Madame Pompadour’s Underwear
Common garden vegetables have long and fascinating histories. Science and history writer Rebecca Rupp will discuss the stories behind many of our favorites, among them the much-maligned tomato and potato, the (mostly) popular pumpkin, and Vermont’s dynamic duo of kale and Gilfeather turnip. Find out why a lot of us don’t like beets, how a 17th-century pirate named the bell pepper, how carrots won the Trojan War, and how George Washington was nearly assassinated with a plate of poisoned peas. A Vermont Humanities Council event. Please email librarian@windsorlibrary.org or call the library at 802-674-2556 to let us know you’re coming

Monday, March 11, 6PM: A Chorus of One: A Celebration of Poetry with Alan Haehnel
We are so excited to have Poet Alan Haehnel returning this year to perform his newest show, A Chorus of One - a performance of spoken-word poetry mixed with music. His performances are a rare treat and you won’t want to miss it! Here’s a small taste of his art: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsnWezQB_FY Please email librarian@windsorlibrary.org or call 802-674-2556 to reserve your spot.

Monday, March 18, 6PM: [Hybrid Zoom/In Person] Book Discussion of Louise Erdrich’s The Sentence
An unforgettable Native American protagonist who survived 10 years in prison by learning to read with “murderous intention” and who now works in a bookstore. A ghost. A pandemic. You really can’t go wrong. This is one of those books where I will always remember the main character and think of her fondly. Stop by the library after Valentine’s Day and pick up a copy of the book. Zoom Meeting Link       Meeting ID: 865 0483 5755                   Passcode: 432409

Monday, April 8 2-3:30PM - Watch the Solar Eclipse with Us!
While Windsor isn’t in the path of totality like Northern Vermont, we will be here outside the library watching the eclipse. Join us! We will have drums. And eclipse glasses! (Yes, we do have free eclipse glasses for you to watch the eclipse on your own as well. One set of glasses for every 3 people please so that we’ll hopefully have enough for everyone.)

Monday, April 15, 6PM: Dear Verma: Avian Advice Columnist
Join naturalist and advice columnist Verma Vora in a fun evening for the birds! Verma will answer some of the most perplexing avian queries with humor and insight! Verma Vora (aka Erica Tucker) is a naturalist whose career includes work as a ranger in Acadia and Yosemite National Parks, and conservation education in California, Utah, Arizona and Colorado. She migrated back to Springfield VT and enjoys hiking with her bird dog Lucy and watching birds. Please email librarian@windsorlibrary.org or call 802-674-2556 to reserve your spot.
